Communities

We connect to each other in the larger synagogue community and also smaller communities of interest.

Chesed Caring Committee

Chesed, loving kindness, is the root and aim of all we do. Perhaps a community member is in need, or someone is ill, or a family new to the area needs a meal delivered to thier door, our Chesed Committee is there.

Our Chesed Committee welcomes your help as we make the world a little kinder through direct acts of kindness.

To join the Chesed Committee, or if you are aware of someone in need, please drop a note using our contact form

Families with Kids

Families come in many shapes and sizes. We chose the word "ahavah" (love) as part of our name because, many of us being transplants from other places, our schul friends become our family. We may be single, married, with or without children, but together we are a family.

Social Justice

In the Talmud, we are taught, "Do not separate yourself from the community."

Congregation Ahavat Shalom is devoted to working for social justice in our local, regional, national and international communities. CAS has become known throughout the area as a leader in human rights work and charitable giving.

CAS Tikkun Olam Committee Mission

"And the result of tzedakah will be peace." (Isaiah 32:17)

The Tikkun Olam/Repair of the World Committee works to inspire our congregation and the greater community to join in the task of mending our social and natural environment wherever it is degraded by exploitation, injustice and violence. We seek to promote and expand Tikkun Olam with new and ongoing efforts in our community and in the world.

From food drives to children's tzedakah shopping to adopting families at the holidays to supporting the Red Magen David (Israel's equivalent to the Red Cross) to participation in Diversity Days across the region, CAS is committed to being a beacon for justice, love and peace.

Abundance Committee

The Abundance Committee’s purpose is to plan both “fundraising” and “friendraising” events to support the Congregation and allow CAS to reach sustainability. The path to sustainability is through active participation of both action and spirituality. Members of the Abundance Committee help coordinate the various congregational activities for the year.

Each event has a volunteer coordinator who takes ownership and seeks active involvement of the members to assist in the planning and execution the program.
